Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak launch the first-ever digital platform dedicated to helping Catholic families enrich their faith at home.
Following the pandemic, Church leaders at every level have called for the need to build strong domestic churches, faithful families capable of encountering Christ at home and bringing God’s grace to the world. In response to this call, Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak, in collaboration with the Peyton Institute for Domestic Church Life (PeytonFamilyInstitute.org), have developed CatholicHOM.com. An acronym for “Households on Mission,” CatholicHOM is the first-ever comprehensive digital platform dedicated to helping Catholic families encounter Christ more meaningfully at home and draw closer to each other by living the Liturgy of Domestic Church Life.
“When God created the human family, he established certain practices to help it be healthy and holy. We call those practices the ‘Liturgy of Domestic Church Life,’” Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak said. “This comprehensive, family-based approach to Catholic spirituality helps families create even more loving, connected and caring households and discover how to encounter Christ more meaningfully in their homes. CatholicHOM was created to help families live out this uniquely Catholic vision of family life and enable them to experience a little more of God’s perfect love in their home.”
CatholicHOM focuses on the three universal building blocks of healthy family functioning as the basis for articulating the “rites” that constitute the full celebration of the Liturgy of Domestic Church Life, instituted by God at the beginning of time, and how each of these “rites” provides ongoing formation in one of the three baptismal missions:
The Rite of Christian Relationship—helps your family live the priestly mission of baptism by showing you how to fill your home with the love that flows from God’s own heart. That love starts with parents who are generous with their affection, foster strong family rituals, prioritize relationship-time over activities and adopt a loving-guidance approach to discipline based on the Preventive System of childrearing developed by St. John Bosco.
The Rite of Family Rituals—helps your family live the prophetic mission of baptism, with a focus on developing strong family rituals for working, playing, talking and praying together, and godly attitudes toward work, fun, relationships and faith. Examples include attending Mass together as a family and praying a family rosary; cleaning up the kitchen together after dinner; and having thoughtful, dynamic conversations about faith and values.
The Rite of Reaching Out—helps your family live the royal mission of Baptism. By learning to care more generously for each other and the world, we learn to serve like Christ. To serve with Christ is to reign with Him. Examples include serving one another at home (preparing meals, doing chores, etc.); being Godly families out in the world (for example, being polite to restaurant staff, saying “please and thank you,” and tipping appropriately to show gratitude for services rendered), and families serving their parish and community together (as opposed to letting service be one more thing that divides them).
