Charlene Rack discovered a way to keep her original prayers near at hand, or make one-of-a-kind gifts for special occasions.

As a convert to the Catholic faith, I often find myself feeling immense gratitude for the richness of the faith. Having lived 24 years of my life without the Sacraments, without knowing the saints, and without the beautiful, inspired prayers of so many of the saints, I still feel little twinges of regret, knowing that I missed out on these things during my formative years. I guess the one good thing that came out of that time was my creativity in coming up with my own prayers back then, and being comfortable in regular, casual conversation with the Holy Trinity.

That’s one thing I’ve held onto (even after embracing the Rosary, the Divine Mercy chaplet, and so many other common prayers of faithful Catholics). The urge to compose prayers that fit my need in a particular situation remains strong. The photo below is my latest “original” prayer. Not that these words have never been uttered by others in a similar manner, but it’s a prayer that came to me piece by piece, as I strive to grow in holiness. It started out with two lines, but a word of Scripture, or other things that touched my soul, were added. Now, I say this prayer on a regular basis, in the morning, at night before I fall asleep, at Mass, before and after receiving Holy Communion, while stopped at a traffic light, and so on.

A couple of months ago, I shared this prayer on my blog, and one of my friends read it and said, “Charlene, you have got to make some prayer cards with this prayer! Luckily, my youngest daughter has made a few, custom prayer cards herself, so I just asked her to send me a link (which I will provide below, should you be interested in trying it out yourself!).

Another one of my friends jokingly warned me, “Wow, Charlene, you might be asking for trouble.”

I laughed (because we understand each other’s humor), and replied, “Better to ask for it sooner than later!”

Trouble is always going to come knocking. Might as well work for healing and grace and increased faith now, so that when the really hard times come, I’m already wrapped in the cloak of God’s Mercy! Saying my prayer over and over throughout the day has blessed me with thinking more about my words and actions, and increased my faith, and trust in God’s Will.

The company I ordered from is CatholicPrayerCards.org. For the holy cards, just scroll down to the “Personalized Holy Cards" link, and use their easy-to-follow instructions to design your own prayer card or other faith-oriented gift cards for any occasion!

For the front of your holy card, they offer hundreds (maybe even thousands) of available images to choose from on their website. Select your preferred image, then just type in your prayer or special event (such as the celebration of a sacrament, or whatever it is you want on the card), and they’ll send you a proof to approve before they print. (They offer some other products, the proceeds of which are used to help support several Catholic ministries).

I

’m very pleased with the look and quality of my own prayer cards, and well as the uber fast service and delivery. (And I also thought it was a fun, easy, creative exercise!) Have fun making your own and giving them as one-of-a-kind gifts of inspiration!
