Disciples of Doubt: A Journey with the Messiah’s Mother by Chris Stepien
Disciples of Doubt: A Journey with the Messiah’s Mother is the provocative sequel to Chris Stepien’s first novel, Three Days: The Search for the Boy Messiah.
Remarkably, from the cross, Jesus gasps his final commands to his mother, Mary, and his beloved disciple, John. They should now live as mother and son. Immediately this new holy family is thrust into the unknowable, with the Messiah’s other closest followers. Somehow, the disciples struggle through the vicious trauma of the Lord’s crucifixion and death, and their own deep doubt in his resurrection—to discover dazzling new life in their risen Master.
This historical, biblical novel peers into the darkest drama of the Upper Room and beyond. How did Momma Mary help John, Mary Magdalene, Peter, and others recover their faith? How did she find the courage to forgive those who betrayed and denied her son? Could she befriend and even love his executioners?
Chris Stepien grew up listening to riveting war stories. His parents had survived the Nazi occupation of Poland. After studying journalism, Chris became an Emmy-Award-winning producer-director for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC-TV). Later, he co-founded two successful marketing and advertising firms. Imaginative prayer inspired Stepien’s first novel, Three Days: The Search for the Boy Messiah. When Chris’ wife, Ellen, was diagnosed with breast cancer, he wrote the non-fiction book, Dying to Be Happy: Discovering the Truth About Life. Stepien’s sequel to Three Days is his new novel, Disciples of Doubt: A Journey with the Messiah’s Mother.
