Patrice Fagnant-MacArthur reviews a new picture book about the gift of Creation by Judy Cooper.

God’s Wonder-Filled World: The Story of Creation

By Judy Cooper; illustrated by Amanda Hillier

Published by OSV Kids

The story of creation is often one of the first bible stories children are taught. God’s Wonder-Filled World: The Story of Creation, written by Judy Cooper and illustrated by Amanda Hillier, provides a beautiful introduction to this story, while emphasizing that each child is also part of God’s continuing creation.

Gods Wonder-Filled World

The Gift of Creation

In charming text, the story tells of how God created the light; the ocean and sky; the trees and all the plants; the sun, moon, and stars; the animals of every kind; and then man and woman, all of which was very good, but He wasn’t finished creating. God continued to create people of all colors, but He still wasn’t done. The next page features an image of God (depicted as the classic old man) blowing life into a child in the womb with the words, “God’s words twirled and whirled, weaving you into life.” But God still wasn’t finished. God continues to create every day and shares His love and grace with us.

Delightful Illustrations

Children will want to look at the mixed-media illustrations by Amanda Hillier over and over again. Some of the pages feature collage-type images, where children can search for various animals and plants, leading to an interactive reading experience.

God’s Wonder-Filled World: The Story of Creation, published by OSV Kids, is a delight to both read and look at. It is a simple book with an important message that would make a lovely read-aloud at home or a Catholic preschool or kindergarten.
