Win one of two copies of a new cookbook that emphasizes food, family, and faith.

What Catholic mom doesn't love a cookbook dedicated to food, family, and faith? When I opened Breaking Bread with Monsignor Jamie: From Feeding the Body to Feeding the Soul, I immediately saw that the author's joy in cooking for (and with) family and friends was evident on every single page.

Then I started marking the recipes I wanted to try. There were quite a few! So far, we've taste-tested two recipes from this book: Oregano Chicken (which I served over pasta instead of polenta) and Roasted Chicken. Both of these turned out terrific and will be part of my family's regular meal rotation. My college student, who loves to cook, will be home for the summer soon and I'm sure he'll choose several recipes from this cookbook to make as well.

Each recipe takes a two-page spread, which makes the cookbook particularly user-friendly. You won't have to turn the page in the middle of a recipe when your hands aren't clean! Props to the designers of the book who made this happen. Many of the recipes in Breaking Bread are company-worthy, but they're all fairly simple to make, and the directions are clear and easy to follow.

Early in the book, author Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello briefly shares his life story, including the role of cooking and food in his home (and his grandmother's home) as he grew up, and his career journey as a chef before pursuing his priestly vocation. And the whole book is about cooking with friends, from professional chefs and restauranteurs to firefighters, fellow priests, and other friends and colleagues. With each recipe you'll find a "spiritual bite": a bit of inspiration with a Scripture quote to go with it.

Monsignor Jamie has a cooking show on NET TV, New York's Catholic TV station, and many of these recipes have been featured on the show. You can view episodes at NetNY.TV

Ask for Breaking Bread at your local Catholic bookseller, or order online from Amazon.com or the publisher, Emmaus Press.
