A new digital series from our ministry partner highlights the joys and triumphs of those with Down Syndrome, a disability that affects millions.
On Oct. 31, the faith-and family-friendly production company Family Theater Productions will release Special Abilities: Living Fully with Down Syndrome on their YouTube Channel, in celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness month.
Special Abilities: Living Fully with Down Syndrome will present the stories of Kristin Ong, 32, and Marc Williams, 19, two young adults with Down Syndrome living in the Los Angeles, California area. The series will display the challenges, triumphs, and special abilities they possess.
“My inspiration to make Special Abilities came from my own family,” said series creator Jay Cooney, “My wife’s brother has an intellectual disability—he is autistic and non-verbal. I also wanted to share the deep faith of the Families and Friends of Persons with Disabilities Ministry at my parish, highlighting the service, assistance, and inspiration they give to their members and their loved ones.”
Cooney continued, “I met Kristin and Marc through this parish ministry and found them to be very compelling people. It was a joy to film them and to learn their stories. I pray that this series will provide a positive example of inclusion for people living with Down Syndrome and encourage viewers to open their hearts to people in their own lives who are living with disabilities.”
The series shows how a so-called “disability” can become a blessing and reveals how love and faith become keys to living life fully. Learn more about the series at Special Abilities: Living Fully with Down Syndrome (familytheater.org).
