Sparkling creativity: Lilia Grundy unites her family with glitter, gold, and glue to celebrate the Holy Family.
Catholic Crafting
I placed the printed poster on the counter and looked at the associate's face, wondering what she would think about our family’s craft project. We had embellished it, after all; it was certainly different from its original form. I was also ready to have the piece custom framed.
The associate did not display any visible reaction, which made me curious about her thoughts on the art subject: a Guardian Angel icon. I had found a graphic online and printed it oversized, intending for my daughters and me to turn the artwork into our own unique design.
I purchased various glitter glues, sequins, and gold leaf, which we delicately applied to the image. There were days when my girls and I lacked the motivation to continue the project, so I decided to leave it out on our dining table. Bit by bit, we would all contribute to the piece whenever we felt inspired to do so. It took several months, and I never felt rushed to complete it. Finally, it felt finished, and I was eager to mount it on the wall!

Sharing the Faith
What started as a desire to venerate my Guardian Angel by printing out a poster became an outlet for our family to share our faith. Taking our craft to the local frame shop, for example, served as an opportunity for others to view the beautiful angel. Initially slow to react, the customer associate eventually stated, “Wow, I’m so excited to work on this! I can’t wait.”
I proceeded to tell her that we are all blessed to have our own angel created to watch over us. Although I had no idea where she stood on faith, she smiled and surprisingly replied, “Really?!”
I hope some seeds of faith were planted with her and her team.
Modeling Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Given that our Church celebrates the Holy Family in February, I have made it my goal to continue sharing our faith, particularly the gift of our Blessed Mother Mary, Jesus, and Joseph — our heavenly role models. Since our art project seemed to be a hit (even though I am not a crafter), I plan to add more creative collaborations to our schedule inspired by the Holy Family.
I love that we are maintaining our 2025 goal of praying the Rosary together every week and encourage friends to participate as well. We have also invited the girls’ friends, who are not Catholic, to attend Mass with us, and thankfully, they accepted. On special occasions, we’ll have the opportunity to host friends at our home overnight. This brings me joy, as our home is filled with Catholic symbols: the chalk blessing on our front door, our prayer table with rosaries hanging above, a small holy water font, and figurines. I am grateful for these visits, as they allow us to introduce our faith to other families.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. (Romans 1:16)
