Award-winning and multi-published authors will share their expertise with aspiring authors through a series of keynote talks, panel discussions, and presentations. World-renowned Catholic author and speaker Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers (“The Dynamic Deacon”) will deliver Tuesday’s keynote address on new technology and marketing solutions for writers. Other sessions and panel discussions will cover topics from “How to Get Traditionally Published—and Why?” (moderated by CatholicMom.com founder Lisa Hendey) to “Who Really Types on My Keyboard?” (presented by Marge Steinhage Fenelon, an instructor for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Permanent Deacon Wives Program and Catholic Mom contributing writer) to “The Author Platform: Understanding What It Is and What It Isn’t” (moderated by Joe Durepos, a Catholic literary agent and former acquisitions editor for Loyola Press who has been named to the Association of Catholic Publisher’s Hall of Fame).

In addition to these talks, attendees will also have opportunities to meet with experts in a small-group setting to discuss pertinent topics, such as self-publishing, writing science fiction, writing devotionals, and working with an editor. Catholic Mom authors Amy J. Cattapan, Allison Gingras, Rebecca W. Martin, Barb Szyszkiewicz, and Karen Ullo are also among presenters and panelists at this conference.

Pitch Sessions

One of the key highlights of this conference is the chance for writers to meet acquisitions editors at Catholic publishing houses. Attendees will also have a chance to pitch their book ideas to editors from Ave Maria Press, OSV (Our Sunday Visitor), Pauline Books & Media, and Chrism Press.

On Tuesday evening, the Catholic Marketing Network will host an “Author & Artisan Meet and Greet,” where attendees can get autographed books from Catholic authors. This year, one of those authors will be Irene Hannon, a Catholic novelist with over 60 books in print and over a million copies sold.

Daily Mass, Rosary, and Eucharistic Adoration are also part of the event. Chicago auxiliary bishop, the Most Reverend Joseph Perry, will preside over Wednesday morning’s Mass.
