Alexis Dallara-Marsh reviews a Sunday Mass journal created by Catholic Mom contributing writer Kathryn Pasker Ineck.

Hosannah in the Highest

By Kathryn Pasker Ineck

I have been so blessed to be part of a Scripture study group in my parish where we gather on Thursdays to review the upcoming Sunday readings together. There are so many valuable resources in my parish but enveloping myself in the Word of God and discussing it holds a special place in my heart, like setting my soul on fire. God has given us a living word which we must be active participants in, studying and reflecting on it as much as able!

 Hosannah in the Highest-1

More recently I received a copy of Hosannah in the Highest, a 2026 Catholic Sunday Mass journal by Catholic Mom contributing writer Kathryn Pasker Ineck. This is a lightweight hardcover book I am hoping to encourage my 8-year-old son to start to use. I feel very often it can be hard to maintain focus in different settings, for both adults and children alike. This book can help with that.

The design of the book involves two pages for each Mass obligation, following the Church's calendar year. On the left-hand page, there are the citations for the Scriptures listed but not the actual text of the readings, with additional space instead reserved for prayer intentions, reflection questions, and meditations on relevant topics of interest during that timing, such as from saints or songs.

The right-hand page is lined as free space for response to Scripture and the Homily. I like how the format of the left-hand pages varies over time, which will keep my son's attention and be a great teaching aid.

I am always on the lookout for any tools I can use to continue to develop my relationship with God through conversation and writing. With this type of book, I am especially grateful as I hope for my young boy to have something to make use of. Of course, some of the vocabulary will still be over his head, but anything tangible is a start to encouraging him in developing good habits toward fostering a personal relationship with God through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

While as adults we may often gather together in small groups, kids’ resources are limited and now more commonly tech-enabled. For some this may be preferred, but I do like the thought of having my son physically write and grasp a traditional journal in his hands. Hopefully he will be able to reflect years from now on his thought process and appreciate his growth in love of God over time.

Hosannah in the Highest is available in both hardcover and paperback formats. Order online from Amazon.com.
