When considering all of Mary’s tasks, Bonnie Drury realizes what a hard worker our Heavenly Mother is.

Our Blessed Mother doesn’t just sit on her throne and gaze down at us poor creatures. She’s what you’d call a hard-working woman. God didn’t merely give her a few tasks, but made her a powerful mediatrix between God and man.

Fifteen Promises

Mary is Queen of Heaven and earth, mankind and angels, and she takes an active interest in her domain. If you read the 15 promises to those who are faithful to the Rosary, you will be astounded by her powerful intercession for us.

Mary is the treasurer of the graces of God. When we wear the Miraculous Medal, we are granted the graces that we request. On the back of that medal, we find the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, forever entwined in their love for us.

Destroyer of the Devil

Satan fears the Mother of God because it has always been prophesized that she will destroy him with her heel when the time comes. Our Lady is well-known for crushing heresies, as popes and saints will attest. She is the Handmaid of the Truth.

Mediatrix and Advocate. Could we ask for a better human friend in heaven than Mary? Like any good mother, she stands guard to protect us from ourselves and others.

Consolation of the sick, the dying, and the souls in Purgatory. All good mothers have to become nursing experts in the care of their families. We can be consoled, knowing that Mary is there for us when we, or a loved one, are ill or afraid or depressed. We only need to ask for her help.

Our Mother’s Many Titles

Mary has many other titles, especially for the times she’s visited earth in her apparitions, such as Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lourdes. Our Mother is a world traveler. In Venezuela, Mary is known as Our Lady Reconciler, and her apparitions are officially recognized by the Church.

In India, she is called Our Lady of Good Health. The Virgin Mary appeared to two Hindu boys in the 16th century; one was a lame orphan who was cured. In France, Mary is Our Lady of Mercy. Mary appeared to Estelle Faguette 15 times in 1876. Estelle was terminally ill, but was healed at the fifth apparition.

No matter what her title, Our Mother is forever busy trying to help save our souls. She wants us to know and love her Son. When we use the title "Mother of God," it is to glorify Jesus, not to say she is the mother of God the Father. We say "ever-virgin" because this is what Mary vowed and God helped her to maintain when she gave birth.

Just one of these tasks would be overwhelming, but God gives Mary the strength and power to tackle them all. Her alliance with the Holy Trinity is our assurance that she will always be our guardian, with a mother’s unconditional love.
