A rapper, Catholic moms, priests, media nuns, and lay evangelists invite you to pray with them leading up to the April 18 release of MIRANDO AL CIELO.

Fathom Events and Mediaquest recently announced the upcoming national release of the new feature film, MIRANDO AL CIELO (LOOKING AT HEAVEN) in U.S. theaters Tuesday, April 18th.

As a ministry companion to the film, fourteen U.S. Catholic leaders have come together in a powerful witness and in faithful support of the Mexican movie that tells the remarkable story of teen Saint José Sánchez del Río.

Written and directed by Antonio Peláez and produced along with his wife Laura Peláez, MIRANDO AL CIELO stars Julian Fidalgo and tells the story of Mexican Cristero José Sánchez del Río, a young Mexican Catholic saint who sacrificed everything for his love of Christ the King.

Filmmakers have developed a 14-day digital prayer resource as a way for all ages to foster a new friendship with the teenage saint. 14 Days on the Way with San José Sánchez del Río includes a daily film clip, a leader reflection based on a theme from the movie, and a prayer.

The Catholic leaders who contributed to the devotional resource include:

“Our movie tells one of the many beautiful stories that exist in México,” said Antonio Peláez, writer, producer, and director of MIRANDO AL CIELO. “The leaders who stepped up and shared their testimonies to proclaim our faith and express solidarity and love for Joselito will truly inspire a new generation of Catholics and that’s what this movie is all about.”

Releasing in Spanish with English subtitles, MIRANDO AL CIELO is part of Fathom Events’ ongoing series on the saints and will be a perfect moviegoing experience for all ages and especially for families during Eastertide. José Sánchez del Río was declared a saint of the Catholic Church and canonized on October 16, 2016, at St. Peter’s Square by Pope Francis. He is the patron saint of persecuted Christians, children, and adolescents.

“Our prayer is that this movie will inspire a new generation of young people to know this young example of faith, hope, and love and then live it,” said Laura Peláez, producer of MIRANDO AL CIELO. “We encourage you to pray this cinema novena - on your way to the movies or after you see the film! Thank you to the American leaders who recognize the extraordinary witness of this young Mexican saint who is a role model for all of us! Now let’s get our families, friends, neighbors, and our movie tickets and head to the theaters!”
