Sr. Julia Darrenkamp, FSP, discusses a new book by Fr. Boniface Hicks, written to help Catholics prepare for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

There seems to be many books about Total Consecration to Mary lately. That’s a good thing, especially for those who have difficulty with the style of Saint Louis de Montfort’s 1712 edition of True Devotion. The newest title I came across was The Fruit of Her Womb: 33-Day Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary by Fr. Boniface Hicks.

What sets this book apart is that in addition to Saint Louis de Montfort’s 33-day plan to get ready for such a life changing event, Fr. Hicks adds Scripture, the writings of the popes and the saints, and turns it into a personal guided retreat. Add to this the incredible color plates of the Madonna in art (34 of them!), on coated paper (making the color pop) and it could almost pass for a beautiful coffee table book! The presentation is truly stunning and there is an added treasure of prayers in the back of the book as well.

I’ve made and renewed my consecration many times over, but after picking up this new book by Fr. Hicks, I’m tempted to do it all over again. Never could resist a good book!

Ask for The Fruit of Her Womb at your local Catholic bookseller, or order online from Amazon.com or the publisher, Sophia Institute Press.

20231116 Guest Sr Julia Darrenkamp FSPAbout the author: Sr. Julia was a 14-yeart-old Protestant girl from Lancaster, PA who just happened to stumble onto the lives of the saints at her public library one day. St. Maria Goretti and St. Bernadette. They were girls her own age! This was the beginning of a lifelong friendship with the saints, and she readily attributes her conversion and her religious vocation to the influence of these heroes and friends. Her conviction as a 14-year-old hasn’t changed: “If they can do it, so can I!”

In her search for more books about saints, she was led to the Daughters of St. Paul, whose mission is evangelization through the media. She entered the order soon after and recently celebrated her 49th Anniversary.
