Alexis Dallara-Marsh takes a look at a new resource from Marian Press for introducing the Gospel to young children.

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”(Matthew19:14)

He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me." (Matthew 18:2-5)

The Gospel of Matthew for Little Ones, written by Sara Meyer, M.Th. and illustrated by Allison Hsu, M.D.

While there is much to say in the Bible about Jesus' great love for children, I have been recently praying for more ways for I myself to teach children more directly about the Bible and its teachings. Helping little ones appreciate the importance of a constant relationship with our Lord takes sometimes takes creativity in addition to patience and persistence. As a busy Mom, I know I can appreciate all the help I can get!

Gospel of Matthew for Little Ones

The Gospel of Matthew for Little Ones is one step in the right direction. In it, Meyer takes each of the 28 chapters of Matthew and in rhyme form, summarizes the main messages of each. I find that this is helpful for learning Scripture not only by children, but likewise for adults. The text in itself could be a great study aid for organization and keeping ideas easy to follow. I think this book would be a great means to assist in evangelization of those of all ages in teaching. The illustrations are also simple, yet inviting, to all ages.

Overall, this is a valuable resource I know I will turn to over and over again in the future as I work to cultivate my family's relationship with the good news the Gospel shares. Highly recommended!

Lord help us to make disciples and recruit others to your kingdom, and at the end of our lives, may we hear you say, "well done, good and faithful servant"!
