Charlene Rack recommends a new book by Ivonne J. Hernandez to inspire deeper meditation on the Mysteries of the Rosary.

If ever a book came into my life at just the time I needed it, this is the book and now is the time. Great division, confusion, and turmoil are brewing (have been brewing for quite some time), and the cauldron has reached a dangerous boiling point. Add to that this unbelievable worldwide plague hanging constantly over our heads, upending our “normal” lives, and we might be tempted to succumb to fear, or at the very least, worry.

CatholicMom contributor Ivonne Hernandez’s Rosary meditation book, The Rosary: Eucharistic Meditations, is aiding me in getting back to where I should be. My husband and I pray the Rosary daily, but it’s easy to become somewhat lackadaisical about it. I sometimes find myself at the end of a Rosary without being able to recall which Mysteries we were meditating upon (my only recourse is to remember what day it is, which is also rather tricky during this “lockdown”).

My husband (who admits to the same problem) had recently begun to use various Rosary reflection options to make us more mindful of our prayer. We feel very blessed to have these new Eucharistic meditations to add to our resources. My husband was particularly pleased by this book, since his birthday “patron saint” is St. Peter Julian Eymard!

I’ve also been working my way through a book called Saint Mary Magdalene, Prophetess of Eucharistic Love, by Fr. Sean Davidson, to which Ivonne’s book has proved to be the perfect companion.

In Ivonne’s book, each Mystery is wrapped in the light of Christ’s presence in the Holy Eucharist, by way of passionate and inspired reflections by St. Peter Julian Eymard. His words challenge us, call us to deeper faith, and remind us to turn to the Blessed Mother for guidance and assurance.

One of my favorite quotes from St. Peter Julian Eymard comes near the start of the book, on page 9:

When we combine the most powerful weapon of our times, the Rosary, with the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist, we are indeed sitting in the inner room of our hearts, with Jesus and Mary. “Ask Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament to…open our hearts to His Presence, sit at His feet, and 'receive the one thing necessary.'” (Emphasis mine)

From cover to cover, you will be moved, drawn in, and strengthened. As we see the darkness seemingly growing on all sides, these reflections will calm your soul and remind you, “the Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)
