Laura Range shares how the newest Theology of Home book will encourage you to embrace the beauty and purpose of each season of the year—and your life.

As I write this, I'm sipping a cup of Earl Grey tea and enjoying a bite of homemade apple crisp with produce from a local orchard. Out my window the cornfields are waving their golden stalks in the light breeze. The words of Anne of Green Gables echo in my mind: "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."

Born and raised in the Midwest, I have always enjoyed the unique beauty of each season and the comforting cycle of weather, food, and celebrations that accompany them. After reading the newest addition to the popular Theology of Home series, I have an even deeper appreciation of them. Author and florist Emily Malloy joins the series in Theology of Home IV: Arranging the Seasons. Her experience and knowledge as a florist add richness and her spiritual insights give depth to this book that travels the year month by month, season by season, revealing supernatural truths reflected by the natural growth and cycles of nature.

We live in a world that emphasizes the spring and summer of life: vibrancy, abundance, youth. But Emily shows us that every season has purpose and meaning, even if hidden beneath the soil. There is hope and beauty in every season of the year and in every season of our lives. The Lord has made both to grow and evolve in His perfect way and timing. We can look to the ways of nature throughout the year to gain wisdom in living our lives in the same rhythms of openness, peace, and patience.

Besides the beauty in the writing itself, the pictures are a feast for the eyes. There are various practical how-tos included in the book for even the most novice of gardeners and florists, such as how to make a bouquet or how to prepare a garden tool kit. And just as in the other Theology of Home books, Arranging the Seasons is sprinkled with a wealth of pertinent, inspiring quotations.

I am delighted to add Theology of Home IV to my collection of the first books of the series. The quality of these books—the writing, the photography, the spiritual insight—is unparalleled and make them a treasure for the heart and home. Arranging the Seasons, alone or as a set with the previous three books, would make a perfect holiday gift for women of any age.
