Word on Fire announces a five-part series, Wonder, hosted by Jonathan Roumie and exploring creation, evolution, language, and more.
Word on Fire is excited to announce its latest film series, Wonder: The Harmony of Faith and Science, which challenges the notion that faith and science are inherently at odds. The series follows Word on Fire’s sold-out Wonder Conference, which took place in Dallas, Texas, earlier this month.
Produced through a grant from the John Templeton Foundation, the films are narrated by The Chosen’s Jonathan Roumie. One episode will be released each day from February 13–17 on the Word on Fire website and YouTube channel.
Each episode explores a different aspect of modern science—from creation and evolution to the science of light—and how it illuminates, and is illuminated by, the great Catholic tradition. Wonder draws you into the mysteries of reality and brings to life the complementary truths of God and the universe. The five episodes include:
- “Light from Light: Scientific Enigmas and Theological Mysteries”: See how the mysteries of physical reality discovered by science—especially the mystery of light—harmonize with the mysteries of faith.
● “God and Nature: Traces of the Trinity”: Learn how the cosmos, in its dance of order and openness, is a keyhole into which the doctrine of the Trinity fits perfectly.
● “Seeds of Life: Creation, Evolution, and St. Augustine”: Discover how St. Augustine’s interpretation of Genesis prefigured and fits together with evolutionary biology.
● “Animals, the Human Animal, and God”: Explore how the science of language illuminates both the evolutionary connection and spiritual difference between animals and human beings.
● “A Window on Salvation: Mathematics and the Mystery of the Incarnation”: Contemplate how the symmetry and geometry of the North Rose Window at Chartres Cathedral conveys the paradoxical nature of salvation.
Recent data shows that 70 percent of non-religious Americans agree with the statement “Religion and science conflict with one another.” Even among religious Americans, 60% agree with that statement. This misconception is most common among young people. This film series serves as a beautiful witness to the truth: the complementarity of faith and science.
“Word on Fire has produced lots of material over the years to show that the war between faith and science is untrue, and I am ecstatic for the release of this series,” said Bishop Robert Barron of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, founder of Word on Fire. “With the world presenting science as the only answer, Word on Fire is correcting the narrative. We are very proud of this new series and believe it will be a great resource for those not only seeking the truth of faith, but the truth that faith and science are compatible.”
