Today's Gospel: John 6:60-69 I have a friend who describes this passage as one of Jesus’ most human moments in Sacred Scripture. After teaching about the Eucharist, many of His disciples left and no longer walked with Him. Then He turns to the twelve Apostles and asks, “Do you also want to leave?” Can you imagine the heartbreak Jesus felt as He uttered those words? His friends abandoned him over the truth of the Eucharist! I often feel similarly; when I share my faith and a loved one appears to reject me. It is easy for me to get distracted by the fear of being abandoned, but Christ never leaves me. Jesus still asks us this question today. Will we step out in faith and trust what Jesus says, no matter how impossible it may seem, or will we leave too? Our answer must echo the apostles, “To whom shall we go…you are the Holy One of God.”

Ponder:

When we struggle with a part of Catholic teaching, do we ask the Holy Spirit to teach us and for courage to teach others, or do we turn away thinking that it is too difficult to comprehend?

Pray:

Jesus, You are present in the Eucharist, body, blood, soul and divinity; strengthen us through this sacrament and teach our hearts to trust You in all things.
