Today's Gospel: John 21:20-25

Poor Peter! He has just reconciled with Jesus, after denying Him three times, when he puts his foot in his mouth again! And Jesus has no qualms about correcting Peter. Not worried about harming Peter’s self-esteem, Jesus puts him in his place.

Once, Jesus declared Peter the Rock and gave him the keys to the Kingdom, only to call him Satan later that same day! Now, right after missioning Peter to feed and tend His sheep, he must tell Peter to mind his own business. After all, Jesus has given Peter enough to do that he does not need to be worrying about what John is doing.

Therein lie two lessons for us mommies.

1. We need to correct our children. Pointing out their mistakes may be humbling to our children, but in the end, it actually builds them up.

2. In our own mission to feed and tend our families, we have enough concerns. There is no room for gossiping about the problems and concerns of other families. We ought to present our needs and the needs of others to our Heavenly Father who takes care of all our needs.

I love how John’s Gospel ends: “There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world could contain the books that would be written” (v.25). Besides the fact that this verse gives evidence of Tradition, it makes me extremely excited to hear all the stories when we get to Heaven!

I picture sitting at a big heavenly bonfire with Mary, Joseph, the apostles, Saints Ann and Joachim, and others, sharing their favorite recollections around the Light.

Ponder:

When you get to Heaven, what question would you want Jesus to answer or what story would you want to hear the Blessed Mother tell?

Pray:

Father, thank you for my family. Help me to serve them well, so that all of us may join our heavenly family in praising you for all eternity. Amen.
