Today's Gospel: First Sunday of Advent - Luke 21:25-28, 34-36

Today is the first Sunday of Advent, our journey to join in the celebration of Christ’s birth.
The readings today paint a picture of end times as we see widespread destruction in nature which creates fear among society in the anxious anticipation of “what next?”
Every year we see devastating acts of nature around the world creating chaos, fear, death and reminding us all (at least for that time) that the end is coming.

We do not know our day or time, but one thing is certain: our time here on earth is temporary.
Times of uncertainty get our attention and Luke reminds us that this is precisely when we should be looking up. We are never alone, Jesus is always with us, and in times of trouble He is there to strengthen us and give us the grace and courage to soldier on.

We all face challenges, temptations and trials in life; however, 2020? Next level. In spite of this past year there have still been visible and tangible gifts of beauty and encouragement, births, marriages, graduations, new jobs, new homes, goals achieved, adventures had, friendships made—-we are beautifully and wonderfully made and adaptable, and let's thank God for that.

Ponder:

As we begin our Advent journey to Christmas, let us reflect on this question: how will we live our lives in preparation for what comes next?

Pray:

Lord, help us to walk with You in the daily monotony, praise You in all that we have, and seek Your guidance in life’s direction, trusting in You so that we may not fear what is next but welcome it with open arms
