Today's Gospel: Luke 7:1-10

When a mother says, “The answer is no!” her child often does not understand. The child may plead, beg, scream, or even pray. Maturity understands that “No!” is sometimes a greater “Yes!” Moms are older, wiser, and able to look at all the variables and then make a well-thought-out decision.

When we hear our Heavenly Father say, “The answer is no!” we too may not understand why. Just like the child, we may plead, beg, scream, and even pray that God changes His mind. As trust grows in our soul, we learn to surrender.

A faith-filled centurion asked Jesus to heal his hardworking servant. When Jesus agreed to come, the centurion said, “I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof.” Jesus says, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” The servant was healed because of the centurion’s faith in Jesus.

Sometimes in our walk with Christ the answer to our prayer is no or wait. Trusting our Heavenly Father and believing that He knows best takes a lot more faith than witnessing a healing miracle. What I like to say is, “Miracles happen, but the greatest miracles happen in the heart.” Unanswered prayers draw us close to God as we wait to hear His voice and understand why.

Today is the both the birthday of our son Zachary Luke John, and the day God called him home. This wee baby of mine was full term and only two hours old. God‘s “No!” to the miracle we prayed for was a blessing in disguise. A miracle in our hearts took place instead as we surrendered our Zachary, “bone of our bone, and flesh of our flesh” back to God. God’s “No!” provided a greater “Yes!”

Ponder:

When did God’s “No!” provide a greater “Yes!” in your life?

Pray:

Jesus, with tears in my eyes I pray for those who did not get their miracle. Give us eyes to see a greater miracle unfold within our hearts through Your grace, Amen!
