Reflection on making your home a place of physical and spiritual healing inspired by Jesus' healing of the paralytic man in Mark 2:1-12.

Today's Gospel: Mark 2:1-12

Today’s Gospel tells us about Jesus’ healing of the paralytic man. When I first read this Gospel, the line that immediately stuck out to me was “he was at home.”
 
The Catholic home is a place for meals and a place for prayers, a place to grow in virtue and a place to heal. Even after thirteen years of marriage, I am still learning, and I am not the best homemaker. Still,  I try my very best to make my home a place of refreshment, peace, and comfort for my husband and children.
 
Now, after reading this Gospel, I also want to make sure that it is a place of physical and spiritual healing. After a long day, I want my husband to come home to a quiet and orderly home to heal mentally and physically from his long commute and any other challenges his job gave him that day. He can vent to me about anything that made him upset, and let go of any anger or annoyances for spiritual healing.
 
When my children are sick or have a boo-boo, I hope they feel comforted by me, their daddy, and each other in their pain. I hope my chicken soup, Band-Aids, and snuggles bring them healing. I will remind them to apologize, forgive, and seek the ultimate spiritual healing that Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, provides.
 
I hope that when we pray together and ask for the intercession of our Blessed Mother, that they will be spiritually refreshed and healed as well. And, thank You, Jesus, for the ultimate spiritual healing we all receive in the Sacrament of Confession.

How can you make your house a home of healing?

 

Pray:

Jesus, thank You for the accounts of Your physical healings in the Gospels so that we can believe that Your spiritual healing is true as well. Please help us make our house a home of healing.

 

Pray Together:

Ask each person to share a time when they were physically and/or spiritually hurt. What helped to comfort them? What brought them their physical or spiritual healing?
