Today's Gospel: Mark 3:7-12

This is one of those Gospels that truly lends itself to imaginative prayer. It’s full of images and messages, but there are three that the Holy Spirit plunked right on my heart. Maybe they can sit on your heart today too.

They came to Him: I often pray for Jesus to come to me, but I don’t always leave time in my calendar of important and fancy stuff to go to Him. I wonder how Jesus might be inviting me to go to Him this week. He could be asking me to come to Him at Adoration or at daily Mass or in a lonely neighbor.

He knew there would be a crowd: Jesus knew His Father would be sending people who needed Him, so He made plans to do the work He’d been called to do. It was about the work of the Father, not the number in the crowd or who would see Him. We can get tangled up in likes, shares, and notices, but Jesus was focused on His identity as the Son of God, who had a mission. I need to pray with the fact that I am God’s child, too, and the mission He has for me is more important than the notice of the world.

You are the Son of God: Even the evil spirits knew who Jesus was and were in awe of Him. I know this truth, but sometimes I do a pretty crummy job of living it. So many times, I try to take charge of things instead of trusting in the almighty power of the Son of God. I often let my doubts fog up the truth. I also have to ask myself if I am willing and eager to proclaim who Jesus is with as much reverence and shouting as the evil ones did.

Ponder:

Which of these three messages will you carry with you today?

Pray:

Good and loving Father, please help me be attentive to the needs of others and focus on the power and compassion of your Son today.
