Today's Gospel: Mark 1:21-28

There’s an old expression, “If you want to know the truth, ask your enemy.” In today’s Gospel, Jesus preaches in the synagogues and unlike the pharisees and the other worshipers at the temple, the man with an unclean spirit immediately recognizes Jesus for who He is.

“I know who you are--the Holy One of God!”

The devil recognized him and didn’t question his authority, whereas the scribes and pharisees questioned what authority he had.

Even today, we still have this problem. How often do we fail to recognize Jesus? How do we fail to see Him in the everyday or recognize His authority? Do you receive communion without considering if you need to go to confession? Do you bow and show reverence in His presence at Mass or come in casually? Or may you fail to recognize His power and authority when a prayer is not answered as quickly or in the manner you’d like it to be? So often we reject Jesus in small ways or question His presence in our lives.

Ponder:

As you meditate on today’s Gospel, think about how you can keep Jesus as the center and recognize Him and His presence in your life. Look for Jesus today. Open yourself to finding Him in the daily. Where will He show up?

Pray:

Dear Lord, Help me to remove doubt of who You are in my life. Help me to find You in all places. Help me to honor You at Mass and the Eucharist.
