Today's Gospel: Mark 4:21-25

When I've read this Gospel, I’ve often defaulted to thinking of the lamp as my life or my gifts. I think about whether I am letting my light shine or letting the gifts God gave me shine. However, the reality of this passage is Jesus is the light. He had a hidden life. He came into this world in secret, as a baby. However, He was not meant to stay hidden forever, and eventually He needed to become visible to the world in order to carry out the Father’s will.

Jesus’ life within each of us should not be hidden and kept private. He is the light within each of us that is meant to shine. We know His love, His healing, and His mercy, and we are called to bring that light into the world.

We are commissioned to share His life with others. We are to be generous in how we measure Him out to others, because if we are generous, Jesus will be more generous in allowing His life to grow in us. If we are not generous in sharing His life with others, His life within us will begin to diminish.

Jesus is not meant to be a covered-up part of our life, something we keep to ourselves. He makes it clear that even what begins as hidden is meant to be brought to light. Trust that in opening up about Him to others He will be opening up more of His life within you.

Ponder:

Am I generous or stingy in sharing Jesus with others?

Pray:

Lord, help me to be emboldened to talk about You and how You have transformed my life. I want to shine Your loving light so that others don’t have to sit in darkness.

Pray Together:

Share with each other how Jesus has been good to you. Make a commitment to share Jesus with a friend this week.
