Reflect on how to embody joy and light in your daily life through the teachings of Christ, even when it doesn't come naturally.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16

Does one choose to be joyful, or is joy something one is born with?

Some of us are born radiant, with cheerful personalities. We have a natural glow that easily shines in all we do.
Honestly though, I don't think I've been blessed with such a gift. It is something I have to consciously work at. Though I wish it were different, I do realize God has put me in this world for a reason.

Right now, my job is to parent. Being where I am at this exact moment in time is not coincidence. This is true for each of us. And with that, we must think of where each of the others we come into contact are coming from.

I may often feel overwhelmed, but as a messenger of Christ, I am to be reminded to act as salt and light of the world. Hearing the message of Jesus Christ, that He is my rescuer, must fill me with hope in a world that, without Him, is an illusion and darkness.

Christ takes away the sins of the world. He is enough. With this, whether born happy or sad, we can always look to something greater that is more than this world. Because of the love Jesus Christ has for us, I can live free and light up the world with delicious flavor, that which He has destined for me.

Ponder:

How can I reflect the infinite joy that comes from knowing Christ's love for me?

Pray:

Help me look to You, O Lord, and I will be radiant; life's difficulties may be for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning!

Pray Together:

Work with your family members to identify a specific area that brings each of you happiness. Reflect on why this is and then actively try to share that same happiness with each other as the week progresses.
