They picked up the fragments left over – seven baskets." Mark 8:8 When Jesus fed the crowd with just seven loaves of bread and a few fish in Mark 8, the people ate and were satisfied. There were even enough fragments left over to fill seven baskets. I find it fascinating that the hungry people didn’t gorge on the food and tuck more away in their bags for the long journey home. I know I would have. As someone who is always over-prepared, I would have been in a panic from going without.   Digging deeper to better understand the mentality of the people in this passage, I looked up the definition of “satisfied” as it’s used in the Bible. Artificial intelligence defines it as: “a state of deep contentment and fulfillment found in a relationship with God and His provision, both physically and spiritually.”   When we’re deeply connected with God, our needs are met and we find freedom from want. We no longer feel we need more and more. In fact, we come to recognize the abundance in our lives. Suddenly, despite the busyness in our days, we realize we do possess time to help others. Even when our own household bills are piling up, we identify where God is making a way for us to tithe a portion of our income.   It’s no coincidence that Christ fed the 4,000 with seven loaves of bread, and there were seven baskets left over. Seven means completeness, perfection, and holiness. When we make God our source of everything, His perfection and holiness make everything complete, with more than enough left over for us to share with others.   ## Ponder: When I look through the eyes of Christ, can I see the abundance in my life, where before I saw scarcity?   ## Pray: God of Perfection, help me to recognize how complete my life is when I root it in You.   ## Pray Together: Take a closer look at your calendar and finances, seeing them both through the eyes of God.
