Today's Gospel: Mark 8:22-26

You’ve heard He performs miracles. His touch heals. You try not to get your hopes up. But secretly, your heart longs for it. If only you could see...

You feel His touch as He grabs your hand. It is warm. Strong. Safe. Holding your breath, your heart is pounding. Hopeful anticipation fills your core. But wait . . .

He’s taking you somewhere. Away from your friends. Away from the crowd. This wasn’t what you pictured. Can you trust Him? Should you follow Him, even if you don’t know where He’s taking you?

He drops your hand, and touches your eyes. In an instant, everything changes.

The light . . . Does it creep in slowly, like the rising sun? Does your world brighten suddenly, like a flash of lightning? Or do these details not matter? It only matters that the light has driven out the darkness you didn’t realize was surrounding you. Your heart feels light as you step into joy.

But suddenly something is wrong. Looking around, you see things that don’t make sense, that aren’t right. So many emotions now: confusion, anxiety, fear. You want to run from it. You want to fix it. You want Him to fix it. Silent cries fill your heart: “Jesus, I trusted and followed You! How could You let this happen?”

And then, His question: “Do you see anything?”

You realize He hasn’t left you. He’s still by your side. He wants you to talk to Him, to tell Him all you see. The things that don’t make sense, that aren’t right. He wants to hear about the light, the darkness, the confusion. This is an invitation . . . into relationship.

And one day, you trust that second touch will come. The one that answers every question and makes everything clear.

Ponder:

Do I take time each day to sit with Jesus and fill Him in on all I see, both in my personal life and the world around me?

Pray:

Lord, even though I try each day to follow You, I still regularly encounter things that don't make sense, that are confusing, and that are scary. Let me never forget that in these places You have not deserted me, but are by my side, waiting to for me to talk to You.
