Today's Gospel: Mark 9:30-37

One of the many things that I love about Jesus is His ability to keep things private, especially when talking to the disciples. I have found that in my own journey, I am most connected to our Lord when He pulls me aside to talk to me so that He can teach me and speak truth to me away from the rest of the world.

In today’s Gospel, the passage starts out where Jesus is beginning His journey through Galilee, “but he did not wish anyone to know about it.” (Mark 9:30). The next several verses go on to tell us about how He spoke to His disciples alone so that He could reveal to them the truth of His passion, death, and resurrection. The disciples were confused at the time, but later came to learn about the fullness of the truth of the Gospel.

Like the disciples, I may not always understand what Jesus is trying to tell me, but I so appreciate His delicate love for me, so much so that He is willing to pull me aside again and again to explain things to me over and over. It is in these small moments that I understand truth, embrace His love for me, and am able to discern the next steps in my divine journey with the Master.

Today, allow Jesus to whisk you away with Him to a private space so that you can hear and understand the message that He is trying to convey to you. Time spent alone with Jesus is always time well spent!

Ponder:

What time can you carve out of your schedule in order to spend more alone time with God?

Pray:

Jesus, I desperately need to be alone with You. I ask You, Lord, to help me find time in my day to be with You so I too can hear what You have to say.
