Reflect on Matthew 7:7-12 and the Golden Rule, exploring how God’s presence can be found in daily life and interactions with others.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 7:7-12

I have a picture of Jesus knocking on a door hanging up in my living room. My three-year-old loves to point at it and tell me he sees Jesus. I fell in love with that image when I found it at a thrift store because it reminds me that Jesus is always there waiting for us. He is always knocking at that door asking us to open our hearts to Him. In today’s Gospel, we can take a different approach and put ourselves behind that closed door. It reminds us that if we look for God, He is always there. He can come in the form of answered prayers, kind acts of other people, whether they are friends, family, or strangers, or beauty present in nature. God is present all around us, and we don’t have to look hard to find Him. All we need to do is just open the door and look.

Knowing this, we can apply it towards the last part of the Gospel for today: The Golden Rule. This is a rule that we all probably know by heart by now. It is one that my parents would always tell my siblings and me when we got into arguments. However, we can take it a step further by understanding that God is present in each person we meet, which means that we should treat each person we meet with love and kindness so that they can see God’s presence in us through our actions.

Ponder:

Where have you felt God's presence in your day today?

Pray:

God, I invite You into my heart, soul, body, and mind. Help me to reflect Your presence in my interactions with others today.

Pray Together:

Share this meditation with your family by having them imagine themselves knocking on a door, looking for God. When He answers, imagine yourselves giving Him a hug and telling Him the prayers that are in your heart.
