Reflect on the parable of the tenants and how it relates to valuing family life as God's vineyard, calling for prayer, gratitude, and love.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46
Jesus tells the parable of the tenants in which the people entrusted with a vineyard forget it belongs to the landowner and act as if it is theirs to reap all the benefits. We can see ourselves in this story. Our homes, children, and even our daily routines are the little vineyards God has entrusted to us. It’s easy to believe they are ours when, actually, we are caretakers of His gifts.
The tenants in the Gospel resisted giving the landowner what was his; in our own lives, we can resist giving God our time and our trust. But Jesus reminds us that God is patient, merciful, and always seeking our hearts. For families, this is a call to keep God at the center. We accomplish this through prayer, gratitude, and love. When we tend our vineyard faithfully, it becomes a place where Christ Himself bears fruit.
Ponder:
Am I tending my vineyard with God’s love or clinging to it as my own?
Pray:
Lord, help me to see my family and my daily life as Your vineyard and give me the grace to bear fruit for You.
Pray Together:
At dinner, after praying in thanksgiving for the food we have and the hands that prepared it, pause and give thanks for your little vineyard in the family. Thank God specifically for the grace to raise a family in His name.
