Today's Gospel: Luke 11:14-23
Miracles surround us—if only we open our eyes and ears to them. This Scriptural passage demonstrates the power of Jesus to cast out demons and to heal those who are suffering. I wish I had been there to witness the mute person speaking. It must have been quite the experience.
And yet, we see people doubting Jesus—to the point that they think He is cooperating with demons. This fact compels me to do a little soul-searching: Are there times when I doubt God’s goodness? Is my heart open to His miracles?
In the end, each of us has a decision to make: Will we stand with Jesus or against Him? There is really no middle ground. As Christ says in this passage, if we are not with Him we are against Him.
There was a time in my life when I was quite lukewarm in my faith. I went to Sunday Mass (usually) received Holy Communion, and prayed for things I thought I needed. But I was a no-show at Confession, keeping my sins to myself and missing out on all the graces of the Sacrament.
It took a friend’s prodding to make me realize that I was on spiritual autopilot. I knew the Catholic faith from my years in parochial school, but I was not exercising it to the fullest degree. I was missing out on so much.
My path back included regular Confession and a daily Rosary, which I have continued to this day. Each day is a struggle against sin and my own selfish desires, but I know I have angels and saints who are rooting for me to triumph. I want to be with Jesus, not against Him. And I am willing to do what it takes to unite with Him.
Ponder:
Search your soul and ask yourself: Am I with Christ today?
Pray:
Dear Jesus, I often fall short of Your mercy and love. Please help me to work on Your behalf to expand the kingdom of God.
Pray Together:
At dinner, name one thing you are grateful to God for.
