Today's Gospel: John 12:20-33

We all wonder at one point or another about our purpose. Some women don’t know if they are meant to be mothers. Some moms wonder if they made the right choice to stay home or go to work outside the home. Some women are perfect moms; while others are not so perfect but do their best out of love.

The only person that never had any doubt about His purpose was Jesus. He knew exactly what His purpose was. In this passage from John’s Gospel, Jesus explains His purpose to the twelve disciples. He could not have made it any clearer. He talks about being lifted up and drawing people to Himself. Also, He talks about the seed that must die to produce much fruit.

Don’t moms do that? They give up their life for their children in order for them to follow her in the right path to God. She spends much of her time planting the seeds which will, hopefully, produce much fruit in their children’s lives. In this way, she reflects Christ’s purpose in her own life.

Today’s Gospel can inspire women to be confident in their purpose as mothers. Christ gave His life for all; we give our lives for our children.

Ponder:

Do I reflect Christ in my vocation as a mother?

Pray:

Lord, help me to see my purpose in reflecting You in my life. I want to reflect the light of Christ in all I do.
