Today's Gospel: Luke 24:13-35

Today’s Gospel passage is full of engaging lessons that we can apply to our daily lives. Celebrating the risen Christ is incredible for us as readers of this passage. However, in the early verses, the two on the road walking with Jesus have no idea they are having a chat with the risen Messiah!

As Jesus joins them on their journey, we learn the importance of active listening. Jesus, observing their sadness, takes the time to ask them what has left them feeling and looking the way they are, even though He already knows the answer. Oftentimes, we know why someone looks or feels sad, and we can be quick to offer them assistance without listening first. Through discussion, genuine feelings come through, and we can be the best help when we allow those holy moments to grace our ears.

As Jesus allows the two to share everything they know about what has happened, He is preparing their hearts as witnesses to His mission. In the right moment, their eyes are opened, and a conversion takes place. For us, witnessing usually involves a life-changing event in which God opens our eyes to see and feel Jesus in our hearts. As witnesses of Christ, we have answered the call to change and share the good news with those around us.

Immediately after having their eyes opened, the two proclaimed that Jesus had risen. I can only hope that as God plants the seeds within my heart, I am as quick to respond.

Ponder:

Are my eyes opened to God’s leading so that I can be a witness to my faith?

Pray:

Lord, I am a loved sinner, and there will be days when I am blinded in faith. I ask, Lord, that You allow me to see and share Your good news in those moments.
