Today's Gospel: Mark 16:15-20
“Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
I was recently at a small public restroom with only one sink. A woman was washing her hands, and I stood behind her, waiting my turn. As she took what felt like a long time, her handwashing technique caught my attention. I watched as she scrubbed each side of her hands, almost like a surgeon preparing for an operation. As I continued to observe, a thought came to mind: I could do a better job of washing my hands. I often rush through it, especially when someone else is waiting. But on this day, once she left, I was more thorough than usual. Remembering a suggestion I once heard, I sang “Happy Birthday” in my mind and then dried my hands.
Without intending to, this woman reminded me, through her actions, of something I knew but had forgotten. She probably wasn’t even aware I was paying attention. When we live what we believe, we become credible witnesses. This, I believe, is how we are called to evangelize.
Moms and dads are the primary examples for their children. Our children will remember what we do more than what we say, especially if there is a disconnect between our actions and our words. As parents, we must strive to let the Gospel conquer our own hearts so that the fruit of the Spirit is readily available to our children.
Sometimes our whole world seems small, a kitchen and a living room strewn with toys, yet it is but a mirage. The holy ground before us is vast, for it is composed of our children’s immortal souls and hearts. Let us live our love at home, and in this way, evangelize.

What is the last lesson my children witnessed from me?
Pray:
Lord, fill my heart with Your peace so that my actions speak of Your love for any with eyes to see.
Pray Together:
With a list of the works of mercy and ask each member of the family if they have ever noticed someone practicing any of these. As a follow-up, perhaps you can pick one work of mercy to do as a family this week.
