Reflect on Jesus as the Good Shepherd in John 10:22-30, focusing on recognizing His voice and trusting in His guidance for eternal life.

Today's Gospel: John 10:22-30

At the Feast of Dedication, Jesus walks in the temple, the very place where God's presence was once made manifest. When asked directly if He is the Messiah, Jesus responds not with new words but by pointing to what He has already done: His works testify to who He is.

Yet, while seeing the evidence before them, many still do not believe. Their hearts are closed, not because Jesus has been unclear, but because they are unwilling to see and hear. Jesus offers a stark contrast: those who belong to Him—His sheep—recognize His voice, follow Him, and are given eternal life.

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.”
This promise reveals the depth of His divine power and loving protection.

This passage is a call to trust in the voice of the Good Shepherd. Through Scripture, the sacraments, and prayer, Jesus continues to speak to us every day; it is we who (sometimes) lack the understanding or open heart to listen and not be afraid to follow His voice. Following is an act of obedience that is difficult to carry out if we don’t first have total faith. And belonging to The Good Shepherd means choosing Him, daily.

Let us not be like those who demand signs but remain blind to grace. Let us instead live as those who know His voice and entrust ourselves fully to His care.

Ponder:

Do I take time to listen for Jesus’s voice each day, and do I truly follow where He leads?

Pray:

Jesus, help me to recognize Your voice and follow You with total surrender and trust. Keep me close to Your heart and never let me be separated from You.

Pray Together:

Take five minutes to sit in silence, asking Jesus to speak to your hearts and grant you the necessary grace to follow His call with trust, even in the little “asks” of each day. Then share one way you hear His voice in your life.
