Explore how we reflect our Heavenly Father's traits and how to cultivate these virtues in our children through daily reflections and prayer.

Today's Gospel: John 14:7-14

For decades, I thought I was more like my mother than my father. Then I had a conversation on the phone, not too long ago, when my dad said to me that he and I were a lot alike.

I was a bit shocked. “Really?" I asked. "We are?” But he's right in a lot of ways.

We are like our parents. No, we are not clones, we are individuals, but we are deeply influenced by the people who have raised us from our childhood.

In today's Gospel, Jesus is touching on the mystery of the Trinity, the mystery of three Persons in one God. But as He relates to the Father and I reflect on my similarities (and differences) with my own earthly father, I can't help but think about how just as we all share traits with our parents, we all share traits with our Heavenly Father as well. We are, after all, made in His image.

Maybe you have your father's eyes and your mom's smile. Maybe you also have a small portion of your Heavenly Father’s love of creating something new, or His deep compassion, or His burning for justice.

Perhaps your own children have your laugh or your athleticism, but you may see Jesus’s kindness and humility in them as well.

Ponder:

What traits of the Heavenly Father do you see in your children? How can you help your children further cultivate those traits and virtues?

Pray:

Lord, help me to see You in my children.

Pray Together:

Pray together today and ask each family member to share one special intention that is close to his or her heart and one thing they are grateful for. You may be surprised by what your children say!
