Today's Gospel: John 14:21-26
Jesus tells His disciples that love is shown by obedience. Simply stated, the proof is in the pudding. We put our love into action by obeying His commands of loving God and neighbor, by practicing the Ten Commandments and living the Beatitudes, by serving others with corporal and spiritual acts of mercy. Love becomes visible. We see it in the patient smiles of moms when disciplining their children, of people showing respect to the elderly, and in the polite stranger who holds open the door for us.
Jesus desires to make His home in our hearts and to fill us with the love of the Father. When we welcome Him in, He sits down with us, and like the best of friends, wants to know what’s on our minds, to hear our troubles, to hear the hopes that we have for ourselves, for our children, family members, and friends. He isn't just coming for a visit, but wants to move in and be our constant companion.
Sometimes, with our actions, we close the door on Him. He meets us in the sacraments, especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He offers actual grace to help us overcome sin and all temptations. He restores the life of grace in our souls and strengthens us to do better.
The disciples ask why Jesus is revealing Himself to them and not to the world. It’s because our mission is to reveal Jesus to the world and we do it with acts of charity.
Ponder:
Jesus wants me to introduce Him to others. How can I do that today in my family life, in the workplace, in my local parish?
Pray:
Dear Lord, let me make more room for You in my heart. Please let the Holy Spirit show me how to love You more.
