Today's Gospel: John 17:20-26

Today’s Gospel and the saint of the day speak of obedience and being in accord with the Word of God. St. Boniface was tasked with bringing the Church back into the fold with the pope in Rome. He was challenged and would have likely failed if not for the support of a powerful Frankish ruler of the time. But he trusted the pope and the Word of God and made strides in bringing the Church back to God.

I know that I am not always in complete obedience with the will of God. I will kick, scream, whine, and complain when God and life ask something of me that I am disinclined to do on my own. But there is always a plan. God has a way, and unless we deliberately go against His plan, it will be for His glory.

To me, the hardest part is knowing what that plan is when it is in front of me. It can be really hard to see the plan and not what the world tempts me with. Is a new job opportunity or relationship something that is preordained or something that is put in our path to tempt us? Is the latest trend or fad something that will bring us closer to Christ or lead us astray by following a false prophet? What about those who are wolves in sheep's clothing? How do we tell them apart?

I don’t have the answer to any of these. There are many daily challenges in life. What I can do in my daily life is pray and do the best I can to make the choice or decision that God wants for me, that I may be one with Him.

Ponder:

What path does God want you to follow today? How can you follow His will toward that path and know what you are on it?

Pray:

Lord, please bless all my choices, decisions, and paths to keep me in Your fold. Please bless all those I come in contact with and help me to live according to Your will.
