Discover how to share your Catholic faith boldly in daily life and inspire others through small, meaningful actions that glorify God.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16
In our current cultural climate, it can feel very uncomfortable to reveal our Catholic faith publicly. At work, at school, and in our communities, it often seems easier to remain silent than to reveal our counter-cultural belief in Jesus and His church. As an introvert, the last thing I ever want to do is call attention to myself, and especially not in a negative way. The temptation to simply fly under the radar is strong.
Today, Jesus reminds us that the light of our faith is not about bringing ourselves into the spotlight, but about using our good works to glorify God and bring others to Him. When I think about it that way, it feels just a little bit less awkward to outwardly express my faith among others. To set my light on a lampstand, I will often share faith-related content on my social media, debunking myths about the faith or highlighting an especially beautiful tradition. When our family eats at restaurants, we make the Sign of the Cross and say the Blessing Before Meals just the same as we do at home. When we learn that someone has died, we always let the family know we are praying for their loved one’s soul. In these small ways, I have become more comfortable sharing my faith with those around me, and I have been able to model for my kids that our faith should never be hidden away.
Ponder:
Have I hidden the light of my faith under a bushel basket? How can I restore it to the lampstand?
Pray:
Lord, help me to resist the temptation to hide my faith, and to boldly share the light of Christ.
Pray Together:
As a family, choose a way to live out your faith more publicly and then do it together. Build up to bigger and stronger ways of glorifying God with your actions.
