Today's Gospel: Luke 15:3-7

Today we celebrate The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, which, as a newer Catholic, was one of my first devotions. I just love thinking about the fact that my name is written on Jesus’s heart. That along with the other billions of people that He was thinking of when He died on the cross, He thought of me, too. The thing is, your name is written on His Most Sacred Heart too!

In today’s Gospel, we learn that Jesus’s heart is one of a shepherd. He shares a parable with His followers of a shepherd losing one sheep, leaving his other sheep, and then rescuing this one lost sheep out in the desert. When the shepherd finds that sheep, he rejoices by placing the sheep around his shoulders and carrying the sheep home. The shepherd then calls everyone in to celebrate the recovery of his lost sheep.

At some point, we are all that lost sheep. A good shepherd knows each and every animal he tends. Their bleats, their attitudes, their cries, and, for some animals, their orneriness. Jesus knows us in the same way, and He knows that we will eventually all be the one sheep wandering around the desert. For some of us, like me, we may wander off multiple times. But you see, our names are written in His sacred heart ,and Jesus, being the Good Shepherd, will always come find us. Then the rejoicing will begin because He loves us so.

Ponder:

How do you feel knowing your name is written on Jesus's Most Sacred Heart?

Pray:

Jesus, despite my wandering, You always look for me. I have a place on Your Most Sacred Heart. Thank You for loving me always.
