Reflect on faith and gratitude in daily struggles as Sheri Wohlfert encourages us to praise God and invite Him into our burdens, fostering peace and hope.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30
Todays Gospel is six verses of hope and peace, but for some reason the first line containing a quote from Jesus grabbed me right by the heart! Jesus said,
“I give praise to you Father, Lord of heaven and earth . . . ”
I realized that, for me, living this line is the key to soaking up the rest of this beautiful Gospel.
Praising the Father is easy to do when things are going just the way I want them to, but I’m not so good at “getting my praise on” when struggle, suffering, and disappointment are on the menu. Praising the Father is connected at the roots to gratitude. God is the giver of all gifts--the really great ones and the yucky ones too. When I’m in the middle of a gift I don’t enjoy, I’m still called to be grateful and praise God because that’s when I can find the peace and hope of knowing He’s using this tricky time to help me grow in holiness.
Jesus promises that He will carry the burden, but we have to surrender it, invite Him into it and praise and thank Him for it. When we do this, we are truly recognizing that He is God and we are not. The burdens don’t become light and easy because we find a way to muscle through, they become light and easy because we allow Him to do the heavy lifting as we step behind and follow as He leads us toward sainthood.
Ponder:
What are some difficult things you are struggling with right now that you can thank and praise the Father for?
Pray:
God, loving Father, please pry my hands off the things I need to surrender. Send Your Holy Spirit to steep my days with gratitude and praise for all the ways You lead me to holiness each day.
Pray Together:
Make a list of five blessings you love and five tough things you can invite God into.
