Explore the power of praising God amidst life's challenges. Discover how trust and gratitude can deepen your faith.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 11:25-27
We live in a time (and I’m sure many people over many periods of time felt this way) when it may be challenging to see God’s presence in the world or in our lives. When suffering occurs, we ask, Why? How? Where is God in all of this?
Sometimes things we cannot understand tempt us away from praising God and trusting in His presence.
It can be hard to understand how God’s love can still be at work in the tribulations of disease, torn relationships, addiction, or violence. After walking the cancer journey with my mom, I have more friends who are caregivers of people trying to heal from cancer. I am grateful for this, and also—there is a lot of deep suffering in the walk with cancer.
So, what do we do? We bring ourselves and our situation to Jesus, make an act of faith in His love and presence with us, and praise God.
We do not wait to praise God until He seems worthy of praise in our eyes because as Jesus says, such analysis of "the wise and the learned” may keep things hidden. Rather, we praise God with trust and love for Him, like a child—like Jesus.
When I do this, I have found (as I am sure you have too) that God is indeed with us. Jesus often comes quiet and unseen, but with a love that is at once tender and powerful. His presence is like none that this world can offer, and that in itself is worthy of all praise.
Ponder:
When is the last time you offered your praise to God?
Pray:
God, You are worthy of all praise. Give us the grace to trust in You and Your love for us.
Pray Together:
Practice praising God aloud with your family. Consider beginning or ending your day together with three things you are each grateful for, big or small, and say thank you to God for them.
