Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 11:1-13

Some time ago I was approached by a friend’s mother who was going through an extremely difficult family situation. Seeking advice, comfort, and direction, she began relaying the details as well as the inability to find any peace. As she spoke, her fear and unknowing of the outcome surfaced but also her perception that she was alone in the struggle.

Attending Mass but not experiencing a closeness with God for some time, she didn’t know even where to begin. So together we prayed, and as she opened the door to her heart that day, she turned over all that she had been carrying for so long.

Prayer is quite simply entering into the heartfelt conversation that is essential in all of our other intimate relationships, with our Creator. Here there is a give and take, a time to listen, a time to speak, and a sharing of our lives with the One Who desires profound closeness with each of us.

Whether in the stillness of your heart or a dialogue, God desires this time with each of us.

In this passage, Jesus reminds us to knock, seek the right things, and be persistent. While the friend knocking on the door at midnight might not have received the initial response he desired, we learn that he did not leave empty-handed. Likewise, our God always answers, yet not always in the way or with the immediacy we desire. At times, too, our own will may deter God’s will for our lives when we fail to trust that God alone will give us what we need.

Nevertheless, if you find yourself in a situation of your own creation, know today that in taking it to prayer that God can work all for His good.

Ponder:

Where in my life am I failing to invite God in? Am I walking away from the door of my heart when God seems unresponsive or not forthcoming?

Pray:

Father, today I come to You asking You to meet me in this moment. I seek Your guidance. I place everything in Your hands and desire Your will and not my own, for You alone know what is truly good for me.
