Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:47-53
Today’s Gospel emphasizes the final judgment and the importance of living our faith to the full. The dragnet, the Gospel of Christ, entraps everyone - some willingly, and some not, for the terrible reality is that many, through their life choices, are instead swimming against the tide. They show that they are not following Him, but may not know that they are outright rejecting Him and in danger of losing the gift of eternal life with Christ. This should be a grave concern for us who are caught up in our love of Christ. We have a responsibility, and our own eternity depends on how we live out our love for Him by serving others.
God, our heavenly Father, wants everyone to be saved and spend eternity with Him. In our everyday lives, through our vocations, through our special apostolates and missions, we have countless opportunities to bring Christ to others. Are we striving to live our faith well, to share the Gospel, to become holy? What example are we giving to others? Are we on fire for Him, or has our love grown cold? Remember, the lukewarm will also be cast out.
Decide to live the Gospel more fully, to be Christ for others. We are called to be His light, to show His way, to bring truth to others. Our lives affect how many see Chrsit and the Church. When people meet you, are they meeting Christ and coming to know Him better by your words and actions?
Ponder:
Jesus says that “every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” Spend some time dwelling on the lives of the ancient saints and discovering old novenas and practices of the faithful folks of the past.
Pray:
Heavenly Father, let me be part of the great catch and use me to bring others to You, for their sake and for Your glory. Forgive me for the times that, through my words and deeds, I have drawn people away from You.
