Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 12:32-48

When I think of treasure, I am reminded of my favorite jewelry. Whenever I wear my statement necklace, I feel empowered and ready to take on the day. It seems as if I treasure my very self more when I am adorned with my prized accessories.

But God is calling me to strive for a higher treasure—His very kingdom. I must be prepared to part with material things and give to the poor. In God’s incredible economy, I will be richer as a result—richer in grace, in self-giving, in compassion.

No thief can take away the spiritual riches that God is prepared to bestow upon us. We must only have a receptive heart, a heart that is willing to relinquish the treasures of this world for the glories of the next.

We are also called to be vigilant, for we do not know when Christ will return in His glory and we will have to give an account of our lives. We cannot wait for a rainy day to get our spiritual affairs in order. Now is the time to act, to make the decision for Christ.

We must strive to be good servants of the Lord, spreading His joy and love to all those we meet. We have been entrusted with much in this life, and our responsibilities at times can seem overwhelming. But by trusting in God, by following His Word, by frequent reception of the sacraments, we can receive the help we need to carry our crosses.

Our yes to God may mean saying no to many of the pleasures of this earth—even to a beloved collection of statement necklaces. But in the end, we can achieve true joy when we renounce ourselves and live wholeheartedly for Him and His kingdom.

Ponder:

Where is your heart today—with the things of the earth or with the things of God?

Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to focus on the true treasures, which lie in serving You and my neighbor. Give me a heart that treasures Your kingdom.
