Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14
Here in America, we have an independent streak. We’re a country of possibility. We teach our children they can be anything when they grow up. We believe hard work will make our dreams come true.
That’s not what God invites us to. God asks us to be His children, depend on Him, and trust He will provide. Some religious orders live this trust radically, relying on others' generosity.
We are called to become His children, which requires a big helping of humility, trust, and a recognition that maybe, just maybe, we cannot do it alone. Perhaps we are made for dependence on our creator.
This isn’t an implied passivity; I’ve seen people fall into this trap. They are certain God has it covered - and He does - and they wait around, almost stagnant, afraid to move forward. I don’t believe that’s what God means. I believe God gave us talents and gifts to use in the pursuit of His plan. I believe we best succeed when we work in tandem with Him. Sitting around, waiting for that great opportunity to arrive is akin to the servant who buried the coin in the ground. God places desires on our heart and guides us and we, as His children, should follow Him. With an openness of heart, we will hear Him guide, we will point our feet in the right direction, and we will run toward that thing.
When we stumble, He will pick us up and set us back on our feet, pointing us the right way. What a great way to live life, knowing it’s not all up to us, that we just have to follow the Father because His plan is always best. He is so good.
Ponder:
What part of your life can you give to God to control?
Pray:
Father, please help me trust in Your goodness and providence. Give me patience and peace as I actively await Your plan.
