Today's Gospel: Luke 4:31-37
Today’s scripture talks about Jesus encountering demons who have taken over a human being. Our Savior commands the demons to come out of the person. They protest, but obey.
I can’t help but wonder if the spirits of unclean demons are still at work in our world. Why wouldn’t they be? Doesn’t it make sense that the followers of Satan would still be wrestling with our souls to prevent us from attaining salvation?
As in this Gospel, Jesus is the answer. He has the power to help us fight Satan in all his forms. Prayer is powerful. He will not forsake us if we call on Him.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)
He also tells us to “pray without ceasing,” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) not to give up or become impatient, for God the Father will act in His own time, according to His plan, not ours.
Ponder:
Are we afraid of the demons who seem to possess some people we know or read about, or do we place them in God's hands through prayer?
Pray:
Dear Lord, help me to have compassion for those who appear to be wrestling with the devil. I surrender them in prayer for Your mercy.
