Today's Gospel: Luke 6:39-42

Today in Luke’s Gospel, Jesus talks to the larger group of disciples about hypocrisy. He teaches them about what we should be doing to bring about His Kingdom on earth. In this passage, He talks about pulling the log out of your own eye before telling others about the speck in their eye.

I think as mothers, we should look at this passage from another point of view. Let’s not think about refraining from judging others but about being an example for our children. We need to be the teacher for our children and think about being that good example. Do we model what we want them to be?

Not only should we strive to be saints, but we need to strive to make our children saints. Study the lives of the saints with them. Attend Mass regularly--be on time and don't leave Mass before the blessing. Pray with them every day. Make good works a habit in your family. Ask yourself, do we serve in a food cupboard? Do we serve the homeless? Do we serve in a ministry like catechesis, St. Vincent de Paul, or mobile meals?

If we, as mothers, can model being followers of Jesus, we can teach our children to follow Him by our actions.

Ponder:

Do I model discipleship for my children?

Pray:

Dear Jesus, I want to be that model of discipleship for my children that leads them to You. Send Your Spirit to give me strength and joy to be that disciple.
