Reflect on the importance of a strong faith foundation in daily life, inspired by Mary's unwavering commitment to God's Word.
Today's Gospel: Luke 6:43-49
Today, Jesus teaches about what it means to follow Him. Many say they will follow God’s will, but they go their own way and do what they like. Their faith, Jesus points out, is built on a weak foundation, one that will crumble with the slightest adversity. But those who remain firm, doing always what God asks of them, rest on a firm foundation of faith that cannot be shaken. With all the obligations we face, it is easy to say yes to a request but then never fulfill it. We all do that occasionally when we are overwhelmed with obligations, but those who do it habitually weaken their relationships with the people in their lives and with God.
Our Lord wants us to study his Word, know it well, and adhere to it in every aspect of our lives. The more we know Christ, the more like Him we will become. The more we listen to his Word, the more it will become ingrained in our hearts. This is not something we can do haphazardly or intermittently; we must do it every day, all day. We must lead our families to do the same.
Mary, whose holy name we honor today, did just that. She followed God to the smallest, most seemingly insignificant, detail. She followed Him, not just during the high points of her life, but all day, every day, and in every way. She studied God’s Word and knew it well. Then she acted on that Word as God had asked her to do. Mary’s faith rested on a firm foundation that could not be shaken in any possible way, even as her Son hung bleeding and gasping on the cross. She always was true to her word. She is the perfect follower of Jesus.
Ponder:
What kind of foundation does my faith rest on?
Pray:
Jesus, we want our faith to rest on a firm foundation. Walk with us, Lord, and help us to live Your Word in our daily life.
Pray Together:
Consider how you can learn to better listen to each other and follow through on your promises.
