Today's Gospel: John 19:25-27

I recently attended a Zoom meeting in which the facilitator noted he had asked an audience who had parents who read the Bible out loud to their children growing up. Strikingly, he reported not one hand went up. In this day and age, we often forget the significance of making time for Christ in our day-to-day lives. Yet in no other human circumstance can we find His love more prioritized than that of His, and our, own Mother, Mary.

“Behold, your Mother” is amongst Jesus’ last words. Mary’s faith is truly evident in that she survived the sword of grief, a sword of which she is foretold of in her earliest days of caring for Christ. From the time of the visitation and anunciation to Christ's death on the cross, she never wavered in her devotion to God, though she was exposed to many trials of deep grief and loss. Mary suffered infinitely as she had to watch her Son and her God die on the cross. And yet, she was always steadfast in her fiat.

We should never hesitate to turn to our Mother Mary with our fears and desires. If we cling to her, and imitate her faith, we too will survive whatever wounds this hard world inflicts on us.

Ponder:

How can you prioritize time to cultivate your relationship with your Mother Mary in your daily life?

Pray:

O God, give us Your grace to imitate devoutly the Blessed Virgin Mary and through her intercession, come at last to the infinite fullness of God's grace.
